  • SilpolySags less than silnylon when wet — the modern tarp choice.
  • X-Pac / laminateStiffer, waterproof pack fabric; needs sharper needles and care.
  • CorduraThe abrasion-resistant heavyweight for pack bottoms.

Maintenance notes

  • Store rolled, dry, and out of sunlight — UV quietly weakens nylon.

Buying considerations

  • Match fabric weight to the job: 1.1 oz for stuff sacks, 2.2+ oz for packs.
  • Coated (PU/sil) fabrics are waterproof but can’t be dyed and seal differently.
  • Buy an extra half yard; cutting mistakes are part of learning.
