Alternatives

  • Tow strapFor steady, low-speed pulls only — no stretch, no kinetic pulls.
  • WinchThe controlled, solo-recovery option; different discipline and hardware.

Maintenance notes

  • Wash mud out and dry fully — grit cuts fibers from the inside.
  • Inspect the full length after every use; retire the rope on cut strands or stiff, glazed sections.

Buying considerations

  • Size by vehicle weight: rated breaking strength roughly 2–3× the stuck vehicle’s weight.
  • 7/8" suits midsize trucks and SUVs; 1" for full-size rigs.
  • Buy from a maker that publishes real ratings — this is load-bearing safety equipment.

⚠️ Safety notes

  • Kinetic recovery stores enormous energy. Use rated recovery points (never a hitch ball or tie-down loop), keep bystanders at least 1.5 rope lengths away, and drape a damper over the line.
